COVID-19 Related Support Measures for Individuals

<Benefit>

■Special Cash Payment (Tokubetsu Teigaku Kyufukin)

The Japanese government is giving 100,000 yen as a Special Cash Payment to each person living in Japan. Foreign residents can receive this money too.

■Supplementary Income Payment for Child Rearing Families

10,000 yen/child will be given to those who are receiving Child Allowance.

Eligibility: Households of children who were born between April 2, 2004 and March 31, 2020.

*Households that exceed the income-limit and receiving 5,000 yen a month per child of Child Allowance are NOT eligible to receive this supplementary income payment.

*You DO NOT need to do any special application. The payment will be sent to your bank account registered for Child Allowance.

■Supplementary Income Payment for Single-Parent Families

20,000 yen/a household will be given to those who are receiving Child Rearing Allowance.

■Sickness Allowance for National Health Insurance Member

Eligibility: A member of the National Health Insurance who meets all of the conditions

(1) Salaried worker, (2) has to take time off work because of being infected or suspected of being infected with COVID-19, and (3) salary hasn’t be paid or has been reduced.

■Emergency Student Support Handout

Eligibility: People attending universities or other educational institutions who usually pay tuition but have difficulty paying because of a significant decrease of income as the effect of COVID-19. *200,000 yen for residential tax exempt student and 100,000 yen for others

■Housing Security Benefit Eligibility: People who have lost their residence or are at risk of losing their residence as the result of losing their job, have lost their business, or have seen their income decrease

■Temporary Offer of Municipal Housing

Eligibility: People who have difficulty securing their residence as the result of dismissal, etc.

■Safety-Net Housing with Rent Subsidy

For people who are living in a “Safety-net housing with rent subsidy” and whose income has decreased, their rent will be reduced through a rent subsidy to their landlord via the “Safety-net housing with rent subsidy”.

<Welfare Fund Loan>

For households struggling with living expense due to work stoppages. *This is a loan and must be paid back.

■Emergency Small Amount Fund

Eligibility: Mainly for households facing a decrease in income due to temporary work stoppages

■General Support Fund

Eligibility: Mainly for households with members who are now unemployed or whose incomes have been reduced

<Deferment>

Eligibility: Those who are struggling with filing (declaring) and paying tax

Those who haven’t filed (declared) residential tax, contact your local ward office, tax division, or municipal tax section.

For those who have difficulty filing (declaring) for income tax, gift tax, and consumption tax by unincorporated enterprise, the due date might be postponed. Contact your local Taxation Office.

Eligibility: Those who are struggling to pay premiums such as the National Pension Premium, National Health Insurance Premium, and Long-Term Care Premium

For National Pension Premium, contact your local ward office, Health and Pension Division, National Pension Section or your local branch office of Japan Pension Service.

For National Health Insurance Premium (including premium of health-care system for people aged 75 yrs and over), and Long-Term Care Premium, contact your local ward office, Health and Pension Division, National Health Insurance Section.
